Russ Bromley
Knowledge Transfer Adviser
I am the Knowledge Transfer Adviser for the North-West and West Midlands; my area includes South East Cheshire, Shropshire, Staffordshire and South Manchester.
Knowledge Transfer Partnerships (KTPs) support businesses to engage with expert academic teams on a project-based collaboration delivering sustainable innovation with positive economic impact and additional societal or environmental benefits. I support KTP projects in my area with knowledge bases from all over the country as well as my close relationships with local nominated universities.
Initially I worked for the Ministry of Defence and the National Physical Laboratory as an Experimental Officer concerned with projects in munitions and aerospace development while studying part-time for my first degree, followed by postgraduate study at University of Sheffield with a period in the US at Northwestern University. I then set up an R&D facility in the ICL Manufacturing Division followed by a move to internal line management, before finally setting up a international Sub-contracting organisation to purchase manufacturing capacity globally.
I moved to Sweden as Sales Director of a Gylling subsidiary (Sweden), then to Scotland in Managing Director roles in Philips/Cambridge Electronics plc. I ran my own business consultancy for 15 years before becoming a contractor to KTP.
I am a Chartered Engineer and have a Masters and PhD degree in Metallurgy, and a Diploma in Management Studies with Distinction. For my work in knowledge transfer, I have been awarded Honorary Fellowships by the University of Wales, Glyndwr and the University of Wolverhampton, and an Honorary Doctor of Science degree from Staffordshire University.
