Cross-Sector Battery Systems Innovation Network
The Cross-Sector Battery Systems Innovation Network, co-founded by Innovate UK and the Faraday Battery Challenge, is a cross-sectoral and collaborative community of technology developers and end-users.
About the Network
As the UK moves towards its Net Zero goals, developing and future-proofing battery systems could be one of the solutions to this global challenge.
Co-funded by Innovate UK and the Faraday Battery Challenge, the Cross-Sector Battery Systems (CSBS) Innovation Network aims to:
- Create an open and collaborative cross-sectoral community for researchers and innovators in battery manufacturing (including next generation batteries), the related supply chain and end-users.
- Open new markets for the battery industry, by introducing this community to new sectors, thus supporting the growth of UK economy.
- Promote innovation in batteries by identifying technical gaps for their introduction to various sectors.
- Help decarbonise a wide range of end-users from rail, maritime, aviation, construction etc. by enabling the adoption of batteries, thus supporting the Net Zero agenda.
The Cross-Sector Battery Systems Innovation Network is uniquely placed to link the battery supply chain with a broad set of diverse sectors.
Cross-Sector Battery Systems Innovation Hub
This online platform is a great tool that facilitates networking and collaboration between UK Battery systems users and supply chain partners. Registering as a member, you will be able to post and view battery-related solutions and challenges as well as request to be connected with relevant stakeholders who could benefit your organisation.

The Battery Systems Landscape Map
The three segments of our landscape map feature a wide range of organisations from across the UK battery supply chain, showcasing facilities that offer various third-party commercial battery testing services and displaying UK publicly funded projects and EU facilities. Add your organisation, access the map and join the community, and help grow our community.
“The Faraday Battery Challenge has provided significant support to the Cross Sector Battery Systems (CSBS) team, enabling us to meet our goals for a better-connected industry. Focussed on the electrification of automotive, with the CSBS acting as a hub for electrification of other industries, we have seen some significant advancements with Gigafactory announcements through to innovations in new technologies. From these green shoots, the UK is well positioned to grow a substantial presence in electrification.”
