The mindfulness device improving mental wellbeing in children

Liam Murphy started Stix Mindfulness to make mindfulness fun for children. After winning the Young Innovators Award, Liam launched his first product, Stix Remotes, in February 2023.

He created the Stix Remotes to help children manage their behaviours and mental health, after recalling his brother’s experiences with ADHD as a child. The handheld remotes feature calming audio instructions, sensory feedback and an accompanying app for gamification.

The product is already proving popular with families and schools, and Liam is delighted with the results. A feasibility study with Brunel University found that 86% of participants showed improvements in mood and anxiety scores, and 100% wanted to use the devices after the study had ended.

He describes the Young Innovators programme as a “great place to kick off your entrepreneurial career”, crediting the mentoring support with providing an alternative perspective on ideas and opening doors to new opportunities.

“The Young Innovators programme provided me with amazing mentorship and funding to help us launch. When I saw the Next Steps Award, I instantly knew what it could help us achieve. We’re going to use the funding to increase our customer lifetime value, improve the product offering for families of all ages and make the product more accessible.”
