Agenda

  • 10:10 | The Manufacturer – WE DID IT! – Sheffield Forgemasters

Master production scheduler Rob Woodhouse from Sheffield Forgemasters will explain his journey from transferring manual works order cards in extreme environmental conditions to managing his labour utilisation, performance and productivity on a real-time basis and the transformation this has made to their factory floor. When previously audited by Rolls Royce for planning systems and control, they were failing badly.  Now with the support of Mestec, their most recent score was 87%.

  • 10:20 | The Tech Provider – WE MADE IT POSSIBLE! – Mestec

Mark Carleton, CEO of Mestec will explain their journey with Sheffield Forgemasters which started 6 years ago exploring simple work order labour systems, and how they have developed an innovative solution for their factory floor. Mestec ensures that all the constraints in the factory, no matter how complex, can be comprehensively planned: labour, material, machine capacity, space, logistics etc which will be continuously evaluated to accommodate changing production requirements.

  • 10:30 | The UK Tech Founder – WE’RE INNOVATING IT – Qinetiq

Grant Williams has an exciting role as Novel Product Incubation Manager for Qinetiq.  Electronics are all around us.  They are in everything we do in modern society and we are heavily dependent on them to keep our world and our factory floors running smoothly.  Anything containing electronics can be disrupted.  Qinetiq has developed Totem, designed to provide detection of Electromagnetic Spectrum (EM) disruption as part of a resilience strategy and Grant will tell us why all manufacturers should be aware of the risks associated with EM disruption and where Totem could fit.

  • 10:40 | The UK Manufacturing Supporter – WE’RE SUPPORTING IT – KTN

Hazel Biggs from KTN heads up the Electromagnetic Innovation Network at KTN.  The digital world on which we have come to rely (Wi-Fi, Internet of Things, radio broadcasts to name a few) is underpinned by this invisible finite resource, but it lacks resilience and is rapidly becoming the widest open door for anyone who wants to disrupt critical services. In order for future innovative solutions to function, both effectively and safely, this needs to be addressed. Understanding the resilience of new approaches will also be important in developing innovative solutions which draw on electromagnetic energy (EME), without congesting this further.
