About the event

The Fairness Innovation Challenge is a Grant Challenge run by the Centre for Data Ethics and Innovation and Innovate UK that launches on 16 October 2023.

The aim of this competition is to drive the development of novel solutions to address bias and discrimination in artificial intelligence (AI) systems.

Click here to find out more about the available funding.

Our objectives are to:

  • Encourage the development of socio-technical approaches to fairness
  • Provide greater clarity about how different assurance techniques can be applied in practice
  • Test how strategies to address bias and discrimination in AI systems can comply with relevant regulation

Projects must focus either on a pre-provided health use case, or an open use case.

Why attend?

Winning projects will be awarded grant funding and the opportunity to engage with UK regulators, the Equality and Human Rights Commission and the Information Commissioner’s Office, to work through potential legal and regulatory challenges.

Who should attend?

This event will be of interest to those seeking support to develop ethical AI solutions. Networking support will be available to connect technologists and those with relevant sociological expertise.
