Find out about how our GBIP in New York can help your business grow.

  • A GBIP has three stages:

    Prepare for the market

Preparing for the market includes the cohort being briefed by sector and market experts on, for example, cultural aspects of conducting business in that country. Delegates receive help to find business partners and arrange meetings and are advised on best practice including the management and protection of their intellectual property.

    Visiting the market

Visiting the market provides opportunities to attend pre-arranged meetings and activities in order to better understand and maximise the opportunities that the visit presents.

    Exploiting the opportunity

Exploiting the opportunity is arguably the most important aspect of the programme. To maximise the opportunity, participating companies are given bespoke one-to-one support from an Innovate UK EDGE innovation and growth specialist to help develop and implement an action plan.

The Global Business Innovation Programme operates on a competitive basis and businesses selected are required to participate in all three stages (some or all of which may be online).

  • To apply, you must:

    • Be a CEO, founder, or senior decision maker
    • Be a company with fewer than 250 employees
    • Be able to attend and complete all activities
  • The US Government has pledged to cut US greenhouse emissions in half by 2030 and become carbon neutral by 2050. Most recently, the US passed the historic Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) in August 2022, which commits over $400 billion to climate and energy-related provisions over the next ten years.
New York has ambitious goals to address challenges in energy, water, waste, infrastructure, transportation, and resiliency, including a goal of 100% zero-emission electricity by 2040. To meet such goals of 100% zero-emission electricity by 2040, the state is targeting offshore wind, increased energy storage, and greater energy efficiency. This supplements New York’s ongoing efforts to develop and deploy solar, wind, geothermal, and other renewable products and systems via established university-industry collaborations and state initiatives supported by the state’s Clean Energy Fund and Green Bank.
Climate Week NYC (22-29 September 2024), is an annual event showcasing climate action. It brings together leaders from business, government, and various sectors to discuss and promote efforts towards climate change mitigation. Participating in Climate Week NYC offers participants a chance to engage with industry leaders, learn about new climate strategies, and present innovative solutions in clean growth. This event provides a practical platform for networking and collaboration during a significant week dedicated to addressing global climate challenges. Climate Week has over 600 events that can take various forms, such as panel discussions, workshops, exhibitions, performances, seminars, concerts, or community initiatives. The events are organised through ten themes, including Built Environment and Transport, Energy, Industry, Food, Environmental Justice, Health, Finance, Sustainable Living, Nature, and Policy.
  • Innovate UK will fund and organise flights, accommodation, and any conference fees for successful applicants. Innovate UK will also pay for any reasonable adjustments throughout the initiative. On acceptance, a commitment fee of £1000 will be obtained from each delegate, which will be refunded on completion of the full activities and agreed action plan.
