Making knitting a better fit for the digital age

After learning to knit at the age of only eight, Lucy Fisher couldn’t have known where it would lead. But despite a Master of Architecture degree, her real passion remained with needles and yarn.

Lucy noticed that younger generations were struggling to take up the hobby, often finding patterns stressful or difficult to follow. The budding entrepreneur was driven to find a way to inspire a return to this traditional craft.

Knit It’s innovative new software enables would-be knitters to choose how they follow patterns. It deploys smart interactive tools that teach less confident knitters new skills and allow those who are more experienced to push the boundaries.

Since winning the RGU Start-Up Accelerator competition, Lucy has been working tirelessly to grow her business. With funding from various start-up competitions and a team of passionate designers and developers, her first product, the KnitPic Kit, has achieved international success, even attracting attention from Olympic diver and keen knitter, Tom Daley.

Now looking to launch an app, Lucy is excited for the future. “I am looking forward to learning how to grow and scale the brand,” she explains. “With the help of mentors I hope to understand more about how to manufacture and commercialise a physical product and form key partnerships with similar brands and charities.”
