Saving lives by improving access to water in hard-to-reach areas
Beren Kayali is CTO of Deploy, a company that provides innovative water storage solutions for rural areas worldwide. With a background in mechanical engineering from Istanbul and a Master’s degree in Innovation Design Engineering from Imperial College London and the Royal College of Art, Beren is a hands-on engineer who is dedicated to making a difference.
Her passion for creating value in life stems from a life-changing experience in Nairobi, where she visited the world’s largest slums and saw the lack of access to clean water. This inspired Beren to co-found her company, which manufactures the first-ever air-deployed, ready-to-use water tank with a concrete-filled fabric that can be ready to use in just 24 hours.
The original aim was to improve access to drinking water and sanitation, but Deploy tanks are now being used for many other applications including farming, rainwater harvesting, irrigation, and livestock feeding. And the hope is they’ll find a use in disaster relief and fire mitigation in the future.
Moving forward, Beren is focused on learning how to make Deploy a self-sustained business and create traction, generate leads, and hit sales targets. Her advice to others is to “be yourself, be bold, and don’t be afraid of failure.”
