Harish Pesala has always been interested in how technology can be used to solve complex societal problems. Later on, his curiosity led him to explore how society could be incentivised to take proactive measures to reduce the impact of climate change.
He co-founded risk intelligence platform Balkerne with the goal of empowering law enforcement, insurers, property owners and public services to collaborate and utilise technology in order to better protect society.
Balkerne’s SmartResilience product turns location-based data into actionable alerts. It’s designed to help property owners and insurers reduce the impact and severity of damage from both natural disasters and manmade events, such as extreme weather, robberies or arson. This allows them to cut the cost of damages and save on insurance claims.
Harish launched SmartResilience in early 2020 and it’s already being used in households in the UK. Now, he wants to take it to the next level to help more communities across the UK and Europe.
“The support and mentoring aspects of the Young Innovators programme, especially from others who have run businesses before, will prove to be an invaluable asset to me as an aspiring technology entrepreneur,” Harish says.
