The fashion studio creating sustainable textiles from flax, food waste and algae

As a fashion textiles student, Cassie Quinn wanted to design clothes using sustainable textiles, but found the available options uninspiring. With a focus on embroidery and print design, she started exploring ways to create sustainable solutions to the problems she faced as a designer.

It was during her Master’s in Biodesign that she honed her approach and came up with her business idea.

CQ Studio is a fashion research studio that uses regenerative materials and systems of production. The company makes textiles from biological sources including flax, food waste and algae, and utilises technologies to create unique textures and properties.

Long term, Cassie is looking to test new shapes and styles, scale the manufacturing of materials and collaborate with leading organisations and brands.

ā€œI was inspired by previous winners and their journey on the Young Innovators programme. Having access to support to develop my business idea will be crucial for success. Iā€™m keen to follow in the footsteps of alumni and make my stamp on the fashion industry.ā€
