The app delivering free sustainability education to millions of children
Solar for Schools provides a free education platform, combining the use of solar energy with hands-on educational materials to help children understand sustainable climate adaptation.
Their most recent innovation is a fully-accessible app, which delivers education for sustainable development.
The app combines a variety of learning styles including videos, animations and quizzes, appealing to a broad range of abilities and socially-disadvantaged children. It can also improve literacy, teamwork and critical thinking, whilst empowering students to have a healthy and sustainable impact – regardless of income or background.
Though it’s already proven to develop a greater understanding for younger people, the app currently lacks the back-end required for teachers to view work and assess progress.
With the support of the Innovate UK Inclusive Innovation Award the team will develop monitoring and pupil tracking, delivering demonstrable social impact via better pupil outcomes. Solar for Schools also plans to create more content for students with learning difficulties, ensuring no one is left behind.
Founder Robert Schrimpff explains how they hope to make a difference in the long-term:
“Our vision is to build a software and education platform that enables partners globally to help 2000 schools a week to go solar, so we can deliver free sustainability education to millions of children worldwide.”
