The app transforming eating disorder care and recovery
Despite over 25 million sufferers in the UK, US, and Europe, less than 1 percent of mental health funding goes towards treating eating disorders. With low recovery rates and high levels of relapse, a holistic solution is needed to support those on their recovery journey.
Juniver is a health company transforming eating disorder care. It’s the first on-demand help app, developed with leading clinicians and rooted in neuroscience.
By targeting compulsive moments (when sufferers are most susceptible) the app combines micro-interventions for urges, tools, personalised insights from health data, and structured community groups.
“Our mission is to advance the understanding of eating disorders through data – from identifying causation and novel measures of detection, to personalised treatment needs,” says founder, Emilie Faure.
The team hope that winning the Innovate UK Inclusive Innovation Award will help more people access the vital support they need – particularly since, despite being the largest group of people with eating disorders, women have been historically excluded from clinical trials. This means they experience worse side-effects from drugs in 90% of cases and take an average of four years longer to be diagnosed than men.
“Innovation and inclusivity should go hand in hand, especially when it comes to healthcare. We deserve for our symptoms to be understood, taken seriously, and funded,” says Emilie.
