Promoting the inclusion of disabled people in outdoor adventure activities
Equal Adventure works to inspire the uptake of outdoor adventure activities by disabled people in an inclusive setting, selling over 500 products. It also offers disability-awareness training programmes for outdoor, sporting, corporate and not-for-profit organisations.
From hoists and harnesses to clothing and all-terrain vehicles, Equal Adventure aims to make adventure, active lifestyles and outdoor expeditions as inclusive as possible. This is all to meet their end goal: to solve accessibility issues for disabled people.
Founder and director of Equal Adventure, Dr Suresh Paul is an industrial design graduate with a PhD in bioengineering. With over 30 years’ experience in inclusive design, Suresh has run global research and development projects to produce sports equipment for people with a wide range of impairments.
“We are passionate about inclusion and we want to be able to demonstrate that inclusion is possible within design in the outdoor sports industry,” says Suresh.
The team at Equal Adventure were thrilled to be chosen for the Innovate UK Inclusive Innovation Award. They hope that the extra exposure will allow them to expand their impact and illustrate the potential of inclusive design whilst helping even more disabled people gain access to outdoor adventure and green spaces.
