The AI-powered, face-ageing technology removing bias and promoting wellbeing
Change My Face uses AI-powered, face-ageing technology that allows users to see an image of their future selves based on their lifestyle, before making recommendations as to how they can make positive changes, nudging them towards better physical, mental and financial wellbeing.
With the support of the Innovate UK Inclusive Innovation Award, Change My Face can build more inclusive AI machine-learning models for face and skin health, ensuring that AI serves everyone.
When creating the first version of the app, the team were using publicly-available image datasets for training AI models, which can be biased towards white faces – and they knew this had to change.
After identifying biases in AI and algorithm training, founder Auriole Prince wanted to create a more inclusive and diverse image dataset for AI technologies, whilst she continues to champion women business leaders and women in tech.
She says that despite increased awareness around inclusion and diversity, there’s still much to be done:
“There is still a long way to go to redress the balance in data used for training AI models that are now part of everyday life. Businesses, especially in technology, must now embrace and serve the diverse community we live in because there will be huge benefits as a result.”
