The revision app boosting the confidence and progression of SEND students

Adapt is a dynamic revision timetable app that is used by over 500,000 GCSE and A-Level users in over 3,000 mainstream schools. It creates a student’s perfect revision plan in under a minute, then continually adapts it around their work to ensure it’s always up to date.

Founder Maud Millar used her teaching experience and passion for education to develop the app. She believes it’s so powerful because of its simplicity – Adapt effectively tells the student “do this next and you’ll progress” which removes the stress of planning so they can focus on learning.

The next step is to use machine learning to generate personalised learning pathways for Alternative Qualifications for special educational needs or disability (SEND) students. With the help of the Innovate UK Inclusive Innovation Award, Adapt’s goal is to get a SEND student confident in all topics on an Alternative Qualifications course, and provide an unrivalled tool for schools to understand students’ confidence levels.

Maud explains: “Ultimately, we want to boost the progression of SEND students into the workplace, enhancing social exclusion, quality of life and diversity. It may even lead to improved job creation as, with a larger pool of SEND people with qualifications, more job opportunities can be extended to people with diverse needs.”
