MOVE MORE LIVE MORE: Using a high-tech intervention to reduce the risk of falls and improve wellbeing for over 65s and deliver behaivour change techniques to create new habits of regular activity.
About the project
Falls in over-65s are considered by many to be a consequence of ageing. They are not, but falling, even once, creates a circle of frailty, leading the faller directly to loss of confidence, loss of mobility and loss of independence.
The project will demonstrate and evaluate the impact of a short term, fixed length, high technology intervention to reduce the risk of falls and improve wellbeing for over 65s who have already suffered 2 falls or more. It will test additional interventions designed to delay the onset of falls in people that have never fallen and those that have only fallen once and it will design and apply behaviour change techniques to create new habits of regular activity in participants.
Post project-completion, the service will be rolled out as a public service through the five Northern Ireland Health and Social Care Trust and will be supported by the Trusts and Age NI.
