Enhancing mobility of elderly stroke patients using sustainable solution
About 60% of UK stroke survivors are aged ≥65 years and have lower limb weakness with reduced mobility.
About the project
A custom-made ankle-foot orthotic (AFO) helps increasing their mobility. Currently the NHS uses a labour-intensive manufacturing process for the AFO with a turnaround time of 4-12 weeks. The proposed solution targets to reduce the turnaround time to <5 days using a digitised workflow. A clinical trial aims to assess the efficacy of the proposed manufacturing process.
