The Science and Technology Facilities Council (STFC) enables businesses to carry out risky and disruptive R&D at speed through flexible access to unique large-scale science facilities as well as some of the brightest minds in STEM who operate these.

Particle Accelerators – unique electron beam and X-ray test facilities boosting productivity by speeding up manufacturing time and reducing energy costs.

Lasers – high intensity, ultra-fast sources and advanced laser microscopy deliver business benefits and product insights through cross-disciplinary applications.

Neutrons – often known as “super microscopes” neutrons enable scientists to study materials at the atomic level. They are applied across industries providing powerful tools to solve challenging industrial problems.

As well as being naturally curious, STFC scientists and engineers thrive off solving challenges and work collaboratively with businesses to overcome product, manufacturing or process issues, breaking down barriers to achieve results, drawing on expertise from across niche specialisms. Their highly specialist team work collaboratively with you to identify which facility or facilities will support your needs – often access to more than one facility and technique is beneficial and we can advise you on the best route to take. STFC welcomes both short-term and long-term projects, working as an extension to your in-house R&D team and their national laboratories across the UK enable local access for businesses with global ambitions.

Innovate UK Analysis for Innovators is a programme that funds access to these facilities.
