About the project

UK-registered Partner: SPG Innovation Ltd – Sarah Gaunt
Africa-registered Partner: Federal Polytechnic Oko, Anambra State Nigeria – Mary Okpala

The aim of this project was to build on the development work previously carried out in the Agritech catalyst. A snack/meal bar was developed in the previous project and sensory evaluation proved to be positive in Nigeria. In this project we were able to transfer the technology from the UK to Nigeria in order to commercial in country.

The SPG team trialled a number of different materials in the popping machine in order to support the Nigerian team with their product development. The Nigerian team was trained in the SPG food grade facility to produce the popped bar and the equipment, know how and expertise transferred to Nigeria.

The outputs delivered the capability for the Nigerian team to produce and train others to produce the product and the know how to develop other popped products. The UK team developed concept samples and know how with underutilised crops for popping applications.
