Global Business Innovation Programme in Ireland - MedTech
Innovate UK and Innovate UK EDGE are welcoming applications to explore MedTech and Diagnostics opportunities in Ireland.
Explore Ireland’s medical technology and diagnostics opportunities, get a better understanding of the challenges and opportunities of doing business in Ireland, find potential innovation collaborators and partners and develop your network in the UK and globally, and improve your company value proposition to international partners and investors.
Note: This opportunity is fully funded support and not monetary funding.
Up to 15 high-growth innovative businesses take part in each Innovate UK Global Business Innovation Programme (GBIP). They are supported intensively by an innovation and growth specialist whilst exploring and exploiting the collaboration, growth and innovation opportunities that exist in a specific business market around a specific theme, from Agritech to AI. The GBIP provides detailed market knowledge, introductions and cultural insight that SMEs would find difficult to obtain themselves.
Find out how GBIP in Ireland can help your business grow.
A GBIP has three stages:
Prepare for the market
Preparing for the market includes the cohort being briefed by sector and market experts on, for example, cultural aspects of conducting business in that country. Delegates receive help to find business partners and arrange meetings and are advised on best practice including the management and protection of their intellectual property.
Visiting the market
Visiting the market provides opportunities to attend pre-arranged meetings and activities in order to better understand and maximise the opportunities that the visit presents.
Exploiting the opportunity
Exploiting the opportunity is arguably the most important aspect of the programme. To maximise the opportunity, participating companies are given bespoke one-to-one support from an Innovate UK EDGE innovation and growth specialist to help develop and implement an action plan.
The Global Business Innovation Programme operates on a competitive basis and businesses selected are required to participate in all three stages (some or all of which may be online).
To participate in this GBIP your business must be an SME and established in the UK. An individual senior person from the business will be expected to participate in all aspects of the GBIP.
Home to more than 300 Life Sciences companies, numerous research centres, and multiple universities engaged in biomedical research, Ireland is a concentrated Health and Life Sciences hub. The Irish MedTech market is valued at around €12.6 billion, with an expectation of growth aligned with the following factors:
- Wider adoption of medical technology in everyday lives
- Advancements in technology that enable us to detect diseases at an early stage
- Enhancement of labour with technology
With its strategic position in the European Union and an established ecosystem for life sciences, Ireland is an ideal ecosystem for developing ground- breaking technologies in the field of health. A substantial number of Irish Life Sciences and Health companies cooperate with international or knowledge institutions.
Areas of interest include:
- Neuroscience and Neurotech
- Genomics, Omics and Molecular Diagnostics
We would welcome applications from innovative companies involved in developing the range of products spanning medical technologies and diagnostics. Applicants should be developing innovations aimed at predicting the onset of disease to enable earlier interventions, preventing major societal health challenges, and medical technologies aimed at improved disease management.
