Developing the next generation of lung function measurement: A Study Group in Mathematical Modelling - call for challenge proposals

BIOREME (a UKRI-funded network of researchers, clinicians, industry reps, patient groups and charities) have teamed up with the Insigneo Institute and Innovate UK KTN to deliver a study group in mathematical modelling focusing on lung function and breath measurement. The study group will bring together 30 – 50 research scientists working in academia (expected minimum PhD candidate level) with expertise in mathematical modelling to work intensively for 3.5 days on real-world problems from industry and clinical settings. The main goal of the study group is to provide an interface between companies, clinicians and mathematicians to develop mathematical tools to solve the problems presented.

We invite industry and clinical representatives to submit real world challenges to be tackled by research scientists with expertise in mathematical modelling. Do you have a research challenge that would benefit from mathematical modelling expertise? BIOREME invite you to present your research challenge to academic researchers with expertise in mathematical modelling and a drive to apply their skills to a real world challenge. The research scientists will work intensely across 3.5 days to workshop your problem and progress towards a solution.

When: 17 April 2023 – 20 April 2023

Areas of Special Interest

This study group is focused on “Developing the next generation of lung function measurement” and challenges are encouraged (but not limited) to be in the areas of:

• lung imaging,
• lung function measurement,
• lung pathophysiology assessment,
• remote monitoring,
• breath content measurement,
• breath biomarker discovery.

Challenge submission deadline: 31st January 2023.

If you would like to take part in the study group as a researcher working on challenges, you must register by 24th March 2023.
