Accelerating Innovation in Health & Wellbeing
25th and 26th June 2019 – Swansea
This two-day event will provide businesses, charities and innovators with strategic insights and collaborative opportunities for transforming healthcare and well-being through human-centred innovation and Metadesign tools.
It is hosted by the Assistive Technologies Innovation Centre (ATiC) at the University of Wales Trinity Saint David (UWTSD).
Business Networking in the Vale
25th June 2019 – St. Athan Airfield
This event is for SMEs with an innovative product or service to develop.
At this event you will find out about:
- A new area for innovative businesses within the Cardiff Airport/St. Athan Enterprise Zone
- Information on the advice and funding available from Welsh Government (WG) SMART Innovation and Innovate UK for innovative businesses
- The latest on developments taking place within the Vale of Glamorgan
- A case study of a local business which has received support from Business Wales and WG SMART Innovation
Cutting-edge Biology: Genetics & Genomics CPD for Teachers
25th June 2019 – University of South Wales, Pontypridd
Wales Gene Park, in collaboration with Techniquest, the University of South Wales and STEM Learning, are holding a one day genetics CPD workshop for biology teachers. The day will include a series of talks on topics relevant to the WJEC AS/A-level biology curriculum (topics include The 100,000 Genomes Project, epigenetics, pathogen genomics, DNA fingerprinting and more), followed by a hands-on session on DNA fingerprinting and a tour of the facilities including the Crime Scene House.
Quantum ISCF Cultivation Workshop
25th June 2019 – Innovation Centre, CSA Catapult, Newport
This workshop is for bodies interested in Research Development and Use of Quantum Technologies including academia, SMEs, Research and Technology Organisations and Public Sector.
This workshop will highlight the quantum technologies at the centre of the Government’s Industrial Strategy, including quantum computing. KTN is running a series of cultivation workshop on the latest Industrial Strategy Challenge Fund (ISCF) quantum initiatives. You will have the opportunity to hear from those involved in ISCF, and network with other organisations involved in or interested in this area.
25th June 2019 – Cardiff School of Engineering, Cardiff
Hear from local professional women (Civil, Structural Engineers and others) on their career journey and their take on the future. A Q&A session and networking opportunities will follow.
26th June 2019 – Cardiff University, Cardiff
The Celtic Advanced Life Science Innovation Network (CALIN) connects business, academia and healthcare with experts from six leading universities across Ireland and Wales. CALIN is an opportunity to engage with leaders in advanced medical and pharmaceutical science, nanotechnology and biotechnology. The network opens access to technology, scientific expertise, and a network of life science innovators to support the development of products, processes and services. This meeting will provide an overview of the CALIN research activities taking place at Cardiff University.

26th June 2019 – The Celtic Manor Resort, Newport
Connected Investing will feature the latest updates from newly emerging funds, including the British Business Investments £100m fund and Innovate UK’s regional angel investment accelerator. It will also take a look at how the changing face of funding has placed more emphasis on the importance of angel investment and hear from inspirational entrepreneurs and their journey to building and exiting successful businesses.
The Connected Investing Cardiff event series is being delivered through a partnership between UKBAA, the trade body for early stage investing and Innovate UK.
The Alacrity Foundation – Startup Showcase Lunch 2019
26th June 2019 – The Riverfront Theatre, Newport
The afternoon will consist of lightning-fast presentations from the some of the fastest growing tech startups in Wales. Following a buffet lunch, there will also be the opportunity for networking.
Energy Catalyst Round 7 Briefing and Brokerage Event
28th June 2019 – OpTIC, St Asaph
This event is to find out more about funding to address the need for clean, affordable and secure energy in Sub-Saharan Africa and South Asia.
Innovate UK, the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) and the Department for International Development (DFID) will invest up to £22m in innovation projects as part of the Global Challenges Research Fund (GCRF) and Transforming Energy Access (TEA) Programme. These must encourage products and services that will help countries in Sub-Saharan Africa and South Asia access secure, low cost and low carbon energy.
The aim of this competition is to support highly innovative, market-focused energy solutions in any technology or sector or international market. Your project must meet the needs of poor households, businesses and services in Sub-Saharan Africa or South Asia. Projects should focus on demonstrating innovative products and services targeted at those people who are unable to afford or access existing solutions, or who lack the time or expertise to successfully use those solutions.
