Two Webinars are coming up in May from the EU Project SCRREEN on Critical Raw Materials

Posted on: 04/04/2019

A series of two webinars will be hosted by KTN (project partner) on behalf of the EU Horizon 2020 Funded Project SCRREEN.

Background – Solutions for CRitical Raw materials – a European Expert Network (SCRREEN)

Raw materials are crucial to Europe’s economy and essential to maintaining and improving our quality of life. Securing reliable and unhindered access to certain raw materials is a growing concern within the EU and across the globe. To address this challenge, the European Commission has created a list of Critical Raw Materials (CRMs). CRMs combine a high economic importance to the EU with a high risk associated with their supply. Examples of CRMs include rare earth elements, cobalt and niobium but the latest list can be found here. More information on the project itself is below.

SCRREEN WEBINAR 1 of 2: Current situation of the use and substitutability of CRMs, 8 May 2019 at 12pm (UK Time)

This is the first in a series of two webinars designed to raise awareness of the issues and opportunities surrounding the substitution of CRMs. In this first webinar we will briefly cover the historical and current situation regarding CRMs. We will bring you up to speed on the substitution profiles of CRMs and also share the sustainability index for CRMs. We will also share feedback and insights gathered from a recent survey and interviews on what organisations see as the most critical CRM risks.

SCRREEN WEBINAR 2 of 2: Policy and economic outlook for CRMs and case studies of substitution in action, 15 May 2019, 12pm (UK Time)

This is the second in a series of two webinars designed to inform on recommendations for policy intervention, give an overview of economic drivers for the substitution of critical raw materials, and two case studies on the opportunities and challenges within alloys and batteries.

Solutions for CRitical Raw materials – a European Expert Network (SCRREEN)

Since the publication of the first list of Critical Raw Materials (CRM) in 2010 by the Ad-hoc Working Group on CRM, numerous European projects have addressed (part of) the CRMs value and several initiatives have contributed to gather (part of) the related community into clusters and associations. This led to the production of important knowledge, unfortunately disseminated. Numerous databases have also been developed, sometimes as duplicates.
For the first time in the history, SCRREEN aims at gathering European initiatives, associations, clusters, and projects working on CRMs into along lasting Expert Network on Critical Raw Materials, including the stakeholders, public authorities and civil society representatives.

The overarching objective of the EU Project SCRREEN is to strengthen Europe’s CRM Strategy. You can find out further information on the SCRREEN website here.
