Opening up Photonics event, 23 October, Glasgow

Posted on: 17/10/2018

A free event is being held in Glasgow on 23 October exploring innovation through diversity and inclusion in photonics.

Taking place from 12.00 Р5:00pm at the Teacher Building, the initiative is a collaboration between University of Glasgow, Technology Scotland, the KTN and Institute of Physics Scotland.

The event is a platform for photonics professionals in academia and industry to come together to discuss the future of photonics in the UK.  The aim is to provide a forum for discussion and best practice suggestions regarding diversity and inclusivity in photonics; a particular focus will be on celebrating female successes in this area and understanding gender equity issues in the community.

Through focussed panels and breakout sessions, the event will tackle emergent challenges such as career progression and barriers to entrepreneurship and engagement, whilst enabling the growth of new connections.

Open discussion surrounding the state of play in the photonics industry currently is encouraged with the goal of equipping attendees with some real measures that can be put in place immediately to increase diversity and inclusivity in their businesses.

Attendees will enjoy a short talk from one of Scotland’s leading experts on increasing diversity in the workplace.  Following this, three panel sessions will be held based around photonics in Scotland today, challenges and barriers to diversity and the future of photonics in Scotland.

Each panel will include a range of participants from industry, academia, and other relevant bodies. There will also be an interactive element to the day where attendees will have the opportunity to discuss potential actions.

Attendance is free, and lunch will be provided.  You can register for a place here.
