New funding programme to support digital health technologies

Posted on: 26/07/2017

Innovate UK is to invest up to £8 million in projects that develop new digital technology solutions to healthcare challenges.

Earlier this month the UK government announced new funding of £86 million to encourage innovative small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs) to develop and test new technologies in the NHS. The ultimate aim is to speed up access to new medicines and technologies for patients.

Digital health technologies, which allow patients to manage their medical conditions from home, can greatly reduce reliance on GPs and hospitals whilst improving patient quality of life.

The Digital Health Technology Catalyst is a new £35 million funding programme to be funded through the Industrial Strategy Challenge Fund over the next 4 years. Round 1 of the Digital Health Technology Catalyst competition opened on 31st July with up to £8 million available to fund projects that develop new digital technology solutions to healthcare challenges. The deadline for applications is 11th October 2017.
