Posted on: 15/11/2021

In September the winners of the Clean Maritime Demonstration Competition were announced, appropriately aboard HMS Albion as part of the Net Zero Hub during London International Shipping Week.

To celebrate the success of the competition KTN, on behalf of the Department for Transport and Innovate UK, has collated a series of videos into an online showcase highlighting all the innovative projects winning a share of the £23m funding. These projects represent some of the best examples of UK organisations being world leaders in clean smart maritime technologies of the future which will springboard the UK maritime sector’s transition towards Net Zero.

About the Clean Maritime Demonstration Competition (CMDC)

First announced in November 2020, as part of the 10 Point Plan for a Green Industrial Revolution, this £20m competition aimed to support the design and development of technologies for the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions by the UK’s maritime sector as set out in the Clean Maritime Plan and support the transition to Net Zero by 2050.

A total of 55 projects involving 208 organisations were awarded funding across two strands of the competition representing a broad array of innovative technologies that seek to springboard the UK’s Maritime sector closer to Net Zero.

The CMDC was significantly oversubscribed with quality bids, demonstrating the first-class capabilities of the UK maritime industry and its appetite to invest in innovation.

A CMDC showcase event was held as part of COP26, and you can see the recording below:
