Are you looking for new business opportunities for your technology?
Do you have the radical technology needed by global players in rapidly growing sectors?

Find out what large innovation challenges these key players are facing and put forward disruptive solutions that your new and cutting edge technologies could deliver. Innovate UK KTN’s Innovation Exchange provides you with the opportunity to become directly linked to, or collaborate with, key industry stakeholders who are actively seeking the most innovative solutions to help them achieve their full potential.

Lightweight Energy Storage at Cold Temperatures

The focus of this Challenge is to develop a person-portable energy storage system (along with the associated charging/safety electronics) that can be recharged at a temperature as low as –40°C. The Innovation Exchange programme is working alongside the NSTIx Operational Technology Co-Creation Centre and the British Antarctic Survey (BAS) to engage innovators and innovative companies that can help them solve a significant challenge they are trying to overcome in relation to large energy storage systems that can be deployed for long periods of time in remote and cold environments. Successful applicants will be invited to pitch to the NSTIx Operational Technology Co-Creation Centre with the opportunity of being awarded a 16-week funded opportunity to develop a demonstrator.

Challenge closes: 23/09/2022

Mental Health Management Competence

The Innovation Exchange is supporting the Infrastructure Industry Innovation Partnership (i3P) to connect with innovators that can provide engaging and practical ways of offering guidance to construction/infrastructure managers and teams (including office-based and on-site management) on preventative measures which reduce the effects of work-related stress. EDF is leading this initiative along with other i3P client and supply chain members. The construction/infrastructure industry has HSE standards in place but needs solutions which provide advice to site supervisors on how to support their teams in the field. A variety of methods should be considered.

Novel Sensor Payloads for Asset Inspection Drones

The Innovation Exchange programme is working alongside Futureworx to find emerging technology solutions to engineering challenges. Futureworx wishes to engage with innovators to find novel sensors and/or data processing techniques that can be deployed in scenarios offering relatively low Size-Weight-Power-Cooling (SWAPC) budgets. These will initially be aimed at demanding industrial environments, such as the ongoing survey and maintenance of offshore infrastructure.

Approaches to Recycling or Adding Value to Obsolete Medical Textile Based PPE

The Innovation Exchange and DHSC are seeking innovators who are able to reprocess textile-based PPE in the form of gowns into either;

  • raw material components for further use or
  • new products or materials that could have further application or use.

DHSC is committed to not using landfill to dispose of these items and are looking to source more innovative and sustainable solutions for stock which cannot be sold, donated or recycled that could reduce stock volumes of PPE and form part of a more circular route of re-entry into the real economy for these products.

Innovative Applications for the Repurpose and Modification of Multicomponent Rigid PPE Polymer Products

The Innovation Exchange and DHSC are looking for organisations that might be able to use, process or repurpose unused PPE currently in the form of eye and face protection, contained within various sites across the UK.

Companies with ideas, processes or solutions for modifying the use of component materials in their existing form or modification into new products that could have further application or use are sought within this challenge.

Innovative Ideas for Recycling or Adding Value to Surplus Hand Sanitiser

DHSC has stock of hand sanitiser (predominantly alcohol based) which may be reaching its shelf-life or will not be used before it expires.

The main focus for this Innovation Exchange challenge is to seek companies that have the capability to reprocess the hand sanitiser solutions. This could be by direct use into other products or by extracting or separating the constituents of the sanitiser formulations into chemical compounds that might be applied to existing products within the winning organisation or sold on to a third party for other products.

Electrochemical Ammonia Production

Ammonia is shaping up to be a major energy and/or hydrogen carrier of the future, offering very efficient carbon-free hydrogen storage. However, ammonia production is still carried out by processes created more than a century ago. Therefore, the Innovation Exchange & MVM Group are seeking a greener alternative that offers considerable benefits.

Innovate UK KTN are working alongside the MVM Group to deliver this Innovation Exchange challenge. We are seeking innovators that can provide an electro-chemical method for ammonia production. Successful applicants will play an important part in meeting the future energy demands of Hungary and beyond.

Long Term Residential Energy Storage

The Innovation Exchange & MVM Group are seeking innovators that can provide efficient solutions for seasonal-scale residential energy storage capable of storing 5000-10000 kWh with minimal self-discharge over multiple months, easing the burden on distribution systems and improving efficiency.

CO2 Electrolysis

The Innovation Exchange & MVM Group are looking to expand MVM’s carbon capture and utilisation efforts. MVM generates significant flue gas in their operations and does not always have solutions for long-term storage. As a result, CO2 utilisation will form a key part of the organisation’s journey to net zero.

For this challenge, we are looking to engage innovators that can provide a highly efficient one-step process to transform high-purity CO2 emissions into value-added products or valorisable industrial starting materials.
