Industry and researchers will discuss the latest work on automatic monitoring of animal welfare at the AWRN Conference on 3-4 September in Birmingham.

The BBSRC funded Animal Welfare Research Network (AWRN) works to promote animal welfare research in the UK and to support researchers working in this field.

Their 2018 annual conference will focus on Automatic Monitoring of Animal Welfare, with the aim of improving links between researchers and industry, and providing information on funding opportunities. The second day of the meeting will consider animal sentience and the implications for policy, research and industry.

A highlight of the conference will be the plenary presentations by Marian Stamp Dawkins (University of Oxford), a renowned expert in animal welfare research, and Tomas Norton (University of Leuven) whose work spans precision livestock farming and bio-environmental control.

KTN’s Callum Harvey, (Knowledge Transfer Manager, AgriFood) will be talking about funding opportunities, with particular reference to programmes of relevance to the automatic monitoring of animal welfare. In addition to his expertise in the funding arena, Callum has a background in animal health and production and is¬†responsible for KTN‚Äôs co-ordination of the BBSRC Animal Health Research Club.
