The UK will associate to Horizon Europe

The UK will associate to Horizon Europe. Association will give UK scientists, researchers and businesses access to funding under the programme on equivalent terms as organisations in EU countries. The next step is for both sides to formally adopt the full text of the agreement taking into account the finalised EU Programme Regulations.

(*subject to ratification of the overall deal and finalisation of the Horizon Europe Programme regulations).

So what happens now? How will it work?

You can still continue to bid into funding calls for new Horizon 2020 funding as they extend into this year. In fact there are currently 28 calls available on the Participant Portal which you can view here.

Horizon Europe is a seven year (2021-2027) €95.5 billion programme of which € 53.8 billion is available to focus particularly on Global Challenges and European Industrial Competitiveness pillar of Horizon Europe. Pillar II includes:

  • Health
  • Culture, creativity and inclusive society
  • Civil Security for Society
  • Digital, Industry and Space
  • Climate, Energy and Mobility
  • Food, Bioeconomy, Natural Resources, Agriculture and Environment

EU Research and Innovation Missions have been identified to increase the effectiveness of funding. They will have clear targets and a commitment to solve societal challenges such as:

UK researchers can be funded by the next EU Programme with first grants issued later on in the Spring. Following further negotiations and agreements, more information will be published in due course.
