The recently-opened Higgs Centre for Innovation in Edinburgh is hosting a one-day particle physics and astronomy workshop on 24 January.

The day will explore opportunities to exploit particle physics and astronomy technology and know-how in industry and to promote the particle physics and astronomy talent pool.

The Higgs Centre for Innovation is a joint venture between the Science and Technologies Facilities Council (STFC) and the University of Edinburgh.  It provides incubation and support for companies with an interest in collaboration with STFC scientists.

This meeting will bring together leading researchers, experts in cutting-edge technology, successful entrepreneurs, alumni and students.   The day will include general talks, panel discussions and networking in extended breaks. There will also be a chance to take a tour of the Higgs Centre for Innovation, which is based on the Royal Observatory site.

Confirmed speakers include Prof Sheila Rowan, Chief Scientific Advisor to the Scottish Government, Amy Bilton, CERN-KT and Prof Tony Hey, STFC Chief Data Scientist.  Bringing together the strengths of discovery-driven research and innovation-driven industry, participants will look for opportunities to bridge traditional divisions and identify areas for future development.  The day will end with a reception on the roof terrace.

Please register for the event here where you will also find the preliminary timetable.  Places are limited so early registration is recommended.  Note that you need to register for security in order to access the venue.
