GCRF Demonstrate Impact Interview with Bhavin Engineer, b.e. Design

Posted on: 12/03/2020

In this interview, Bhavin talks about the Human-Centred Design (HCD) approach when designing products and services for people.

As per the last round of events, a strong ‘human-centred design’ element will be embedded in both of the forthcoming events in 2020. Human-centred design (HCD) is a creative approach used to describe a process of designing products and services for people. People are unpredictable so prototype and test your ideas as frequently as possible. The mantra is ‘fail fast, learn fast’.

UK Research and Innovation¬†have recently launched a new Demonstrate Impact Programme under the Global Challenges Research Fund (GCRF). The fund is now at Round 2 stage and aims to “Increase Impact Through Innovation in Developing Countries”.

The fund aims to reduce poverty by generating and putting into use knowledge and technology to address development challenges and advance development for the poorest people and countries. Demonstrate Impact funding in particular will support later-stage or closer to market projects that show excellent potential for transformative, positive change in the lives of people in and on the economies of lower and middle income countries (LMICs).

About GCRF

The Global Challenges Research Fund (GCRF) will invest up to £9.3 million in demonstration-stage projects. The projects must have the potential to transform lives in developing countries, through market-creating innovation. We will support projects that address one of ten global societal challenges recognised in the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through the development of innovative processes, products and services.

These projects should lead to the deployment of those innovations within developing countries.
