Doctoral Training Partnerships Programme 3

Posted on: 14/08/2018

BBSRC invite the bioscience community to comment on DTP3 in order to continue the success of the programme.

Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council (BBSRC) Doctoral Training Partnerships provide PhD training in research areas relevant to BBSRC‚Äôs remit and strategic priority areas. DTPs also provide a breadth of professional development training opportunities to enhance students’ capability and develop the world-class, highly skilled workforce the UK needs for its future.

DTP courses offer four-year PhD studentships, during which each student also undertakes a 3-month Professional Internships for PhD Students (PIPS) placement. There have been two DTP calls so far, supporting more than 250 students every year.

The third phase BBSRC Doctoral Training Partnership (DTP) programme will open for applications in January 2019, to begin training students in October 2020. The vision for DTP3 is for an innovative, inclusive and outcomes-focussed programme of doctoral training to build and maintain the capacity of core bioscience disciplines, and deliver skills for impact across the UK economy.

Therefore there is currently an invitation to comment on DTP3 which seeks general feedback from academic and industrial stakeholder organisations in the bioscience community in order to ensure that DTP3 continues to meet the needs of the bioscience sector and the students it intends to support. BBSRC seeks input from the community to identify:

  • what aspects of current DTP programmes should be retained
  • what should be revised
  • what (if anything) should be retired

The feedback provided will help to refine the vision and strategic objectives of the programme and identify potential opportunities and barriers prior to the launch of DTP3. Responses from all interested individuals and organisations are welcome.

The deadline for submitting feedback is 5th September.
