The healthy ageing challenge is supporting the U.K. government’s Ageing Society Grand Challenge to ensure people can enjoy at least 5 extra healthy, independent years of life by 2035, while narrowing the gap between the experiences of the richest and poorest.

A total of £29 million in government grants together with aligned funding from private investors will be available over the next four years for projects up to £2 million in eligible costs.

£13M of grant funding has already been allocated, alongside private equity from our new Investor Partners from the first competition, which were announced on the 14th May 2020. They are Legal & General, Barclays Ventures and Northstar Ventures.

Innovate UK are now looking for further investor partners to work with on this initiative. A competition will open on the 7th September calling for a mix of commercial investors, social impact investors and charities who have the ability to provide equity investment, to apply for a share of a further £12M of grant funding. They will be able to deploy this alongside the same amount of private equity into businesses development products, solutions, business models and services, which address one or more of the 7 themes of Healthy Ageing.
