Bridging for Innovators (B4I) energy roadshow, 15 January, WMG, Coventry
If you work in the energy sector and have a product, manufacturing or process performance issue, B4I could be the solution.
An unmissable roadshow is coming to WMG in Coventry on 15 January that will give delegates the chance to explore how B4I could help their company.
The third of the B4I roadshow series is aimed at the energy sector and attendees will have the opportunity to find out more about how B4I can help speed up manufacturing times, reduce energy output and boost productivity by solving innovation challenges.
B4I gives successful applicants the chance to access the Science and Technology Facilities Council’s (STFC’s) cutting-edge science facilities, including key experimental and computational capabilities and their experts.  Previous challenges successfully tackled by STFC include:
- The freezing of diesel fuel in cold temperatures
- Cracks in advanced gas cooler reactors
- How to find alternative ways of controlling pixels and colour in LCD displays to reduce energy consumption
- How to develop and scale smarter payment methods for smart meters, particularly for vulnerable adult customers
STFC has helped national and global players like EDF, BP and Toyota, but also smaller companies like Global 365.  Your company could be next.
By coming to the event, you will be able to talk through your challenge with experts from STFC and hear more about how B4I could help.  STFC is a multidisciplinary research and innovation organisation at the forefront of UK science and technology.  Projects and available technology relevant to the energy sector include:
- Exploring radical new energy horizons using high-powered lasers, electron beams, magnetic fields and artificial photosynthesis
- Hydrogen storage using a neutron scattering source
- Fuel cells
- Solar power through the development of ground-breaking polymers
- Capturing waste gases
The agenda will feature speakers from Innovate UK, the Faraday Institution and WMG, providing exclusive insight into current opportunities within the energy sector.  You’ll get the opportunity to talk to world-leading scientists, understand how to access leading-edge research infrastructure and hear about government strategies, Grand Challenges and funding opportunities for the energy industries.  You’ll have the chance to find a solution to challenges that restrict your productivity and competitiveness and there are a limited number of pitch slots to allow you to outline your challenge directly to the audience.
A facility tour of WMG’s Energy Innovation Centre will also form part of the event.  This is where WMG’s battery labs are housed, where they build cells and where testing is carried out on batteries in extreme environments to test their robustness under stress.
You can email KTN’s Head of Enabling Technologies, Nigel Rix, here in advance of the event to see if your challenge is something B4I can help with.
