Breathe Battery Technologies has received a £1.5m investment led by Speedinvest alongside leading angels following the Faraday Battery Challenge Investment Readiness Programme, co-led by Innovate UK KTN.

Breathe Battery Technologies, an advanced battery management software developer based in London, has announced that it has received a £1.5m investment led by Speedinvest alongside industry leading angels. Angels who have participated in this round include Pete Hutton, former president of product groups at Arm; Adrien Cohen, co-founder and president at unicorn Tractable; Benno Jering, partner at Redline Capital; Paul Massara, ex-Centrica and RWE Executive Member, and Peter Murphy, co-founder of Covalis Capital and a leading investor in the energy transition field. Speedinvest is a venture capital fund investing in pre-Seed, Seed, and early-stage tech startups across Europe.

Breathe received a Faraday Institution Entrepreneurial Fellowship award in 2019,  and following that, the company has achieved significant technical and commercial milestones in the growing market for intelligent battery management software.

The investment from Speedinvest comes as a direct outcome of Breathe’s participation in the Faraday Battery Challenge Investment Readiness Programme, which was run jointly in 2021 by the Faraday Battery Challenge and Innovate UK KTN. The Programme took 14 UK-based SMEs active in the battery sector into a pitch training journey and culminated in an investor showcase event with five finalists including Breathe Battery Technologies.

Dr Ian Campbell, CEO & Co-founder of Breathe Battery Technologies said: “We are thankful to the Faraday Battery Challenge and KTN for running the Investment Programme earlier in the year. It was a great opportunity for us to showcase our solution to potential investors and we’re delighted with the results!”

Rick Hao, Principal, Deep Tech at Speedinvest added: “Breathe Battery Technologies offers a unique solution because their software looks deep inside the cells, considering not just the measurable aspects of the battery – current, voltage, temperature – but by using that information to model what’s happening inside the cells electrochemically (the co-founder Professor Greg Offer is a chemist). Breathe has developed an intelligent software that provides really useful insights and we are very excited to invest in it.’”

Faraday Battery Challenge and Innovate UK KTN will be running another Investment Readiness Programme in early 2022. If you would like to be involved please contact Jordan Fletcher – KTM Investment Communities, or Nikoleta Piperidou – KTM Energy & Infrastructure.
