WM5G and Innovate UK, working with KTN, is running an online event on 3rd November which will be a mid-point update session for the WM5G. Participants will be updated on the £2.5million WM5G Phase programme by the WM5G and InnovateUK teams. There will also be an opportunity for applicants to ask questions to the relating to the scope, use case and eligibility around the competition. We are also running a pitching session in the event.

3 Minute Pitches – 3 slides only: If you are interested in delivering a 3-minute pitch  No more than 3 slides (the title slide is not counted) Ideally, slides should list:

  1. Who you are and your contact details.
  2. What you are looking to do and, if you need partners, what kind of partner and capability are you looking for?
  3. And/or what you can offer to others looking to make an application.
  4. 16.9 Powerpoint format only

NB: Please do not use timing transitions in your slides as all slides will be merged into one deck.

Additional information on the 5G enabled road and rail transport trials in the West Midlands competition call: West Midlands 5G (WM5G) Round 2, in partnership with the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS), Transport for West Midlands (TfWM) and in collaboration with Innovate UK, will invest up to £2.5 million in innovation projects that develop a new service or product. These must improve road and rail operational efficiency, provide better-connected transport or improve the experience for travellers.

Project applications must focus on one of the use cases listed in the specific themes below and be suitable for trial in the West Midlands using the live 5G environment. They must demonstrate how 5G is essential to developing your new service or product and offers a significant enhancement compared to current mobile communications.

  1. Movement of things – Freight and logistics
  2. Movement of people – Public transport recovery and traveller confidence post COVID
  3. Road operation and management – improving congestion and emissions

These projects must improve road and rail operational efficiency, provide better-connected transport, more cohesive travel solutions and transport information, or improve traveller experience.

Please note: Projects can be up to 12 months long and have a maximum grant funding of £500,000. The grant must be no more than 50% of the total eligible project costs.
