Overview

With so much rapid change in the world today, there is constant appetite across the industry, Government and beyond to be better prepared for the future ahead. Throughout 2024 Innovate UK’s Horizon Scanning team is delivering a series of in-person events exploring possible technology-driven future scenarios and the impact they will have on our lives.

Venue: thestudio Glasgow, 67 Hope Street, Glasgow, G2 6AE

Innovate UK Horizon Scanning

Innovate UK has a unique position as a connector and convener between research, industry and government. We have the experience to collate, understand, and share the information needed to identify emerging technologies at an early stage. We constantly survey the horizon for new and emerging technologies and respond intelligently and in an agile way to what we see and hear, in the UK and internationally. This includes bringing together the best possible insights and wisdom from across the UK.

Introduction

Following a welcome address by one of Innovate UK’s senior leadership team, delegates will hear from expert speakers across themes essential to successful horizon scanning.

Innovate UK’s Futurist, Jonathan Mitchener, then pulls the insight together into a future view of the topic. Delegates are then invited to join facilitated breakout groups to comment on their views, hopes, concerns and expectations, given background and experience.

What to expect

Glimpse of the Future are dynamic sessions where Innovate UK bring forward a broad range of the most exciting new technological breakthroughs that could be part of our everyday lives. We take regional, national and international influences to inform the future ideas and scenarios, discussing these in combination with Innovate UK’s wider Horizon Scanning knowledge, including our recent publications to inform and guide the audience.

By using a Feed, Inspire, Listen approach we then hold engaging round table workshops in which you and fellow industry leaders will discuss thoughts on how these novel technologies and trends could affect industries, businesses and society in the coming decades.

The outcome

Delegates will walk away with new foresight into potential opportunities and challenges for the future of your business and sector. New connections and networks across common interests will be established and you will become part of the Innovate UK’s community.

At the same time, your contribution in the form of knowledge, evidence and insights will inform Innovate UK’s wider horizon work including feeding into the next addition of the 50 Emerging technologies report.

Following the event delegates will be provided with a summary of the event and key conclusions.

Who are the sessions for?

These cross-sector events are aimed at any business leaders who have strategic responsibility for forward thinking and change, from all industry sectors of the economy.

We also welcome academic leaders, regional leaders and beyond.

Come and explore what the future may hold for you, your organisation, your customers and suppliers, and help guide the future of UK innovation!

These events work in parallel with the Future Technology Glimpse events that deep-dive specific topics related to the UK’s critical technologies and beyond.
