In response to the disruption caused by Covid-19 to the UK industry, Driving the Electric Revolution is investing up to £5m in innovation projects that will support the UK’s continued push towards net zero. This is part of a larger effort to catalyse the green economic recovery in transport, energy and industrial sectors.

The aim of the Driving Electric Revolution competition is to facilitate UK supply chain and manufacturing capability growth in power electronics, machines and drives to enable future improvements in productivity, capacity, quality or efficiency. Circular economy and recycling activities are also in scope.

Driving Electric Revolution shall be looking to fund short, high impact, collaborative research and development projects that can demonstrate a clear return on investment. This is not for proof of concept or feasibility studies and we will not fund product development, unless it is clearly focused on design for manufacture. Projects can be up to 9 months in duration and up to £500,000 in total eligible costs. Total funding available for this competition will be up to £5million. The competition will only be open for a short window, opening on 15th June 2020 and closing noon, 29th July 2020.*

Along with the targeted funding for accelerating the PEMD supply chain there is also an anticipated additional focused opportunity for advancing Zero Emission Vehicle innovation. This will be centred around short duration projects that develop zero emission technologies, including batteries and EV charging. This opportunity will extend to previous or current research in the ZEV space which can be further supported in terms of a continuation / expansion of the project.
