Creating an on-person device for electricians to help reduce waste
After completing an apprenticeship as an electrician, Conor Walsh quickly identified a recurring problem. He noticed that when electricians were wiring, they struggled to carry around drums or loose lengths of earth sleeving and that large amounts of it were going to waste.
Conor created Reelhelp to combat this problem. He has developed an early-stage prototype which he self funded and tested on-site with other electricians.
The on-person device acts as a dispenser and allows electricians to reel out earth sleeving from their waist. Conor is now keen to learn more about the product development and manufacturing process to create tools that are better for the environment and make people’s jobs easier.
“I wanted to be part of the Young Innovators programme because I think it will help me to make my idea a reality. I know that with expert advice, I will be able to learn and develop the product at a faster pace, with fewer mistakes than if I were operating without that support,” he says.
