Kidney Research UK
Kidney Research UK is the leading charity in the UK focused on funding research into the prevention, treatment and management of kidney disease.
Our vision is the day when everyone lives free from kidney disease and for more than 60 years the research we fund has been making an impact.
In 2023, an estimated 7.2 million people were living with kidney disease in the UK (10% of the population). The figures are rising, as are the factors contributing to it, such as diabetes, cardiovascular disease and obesity, making our work more essential than ever.
KRUK’s investment strategy is aligned to our published Research Strategy and our investment is focussed on supporting companies developing new technologies and innovations that will deliver significant benefits for kidney patients and the broader healthcare system, and in doing so generate attractive financial returns. Our primary focus is on early-stage investments at pre-seed or seed stage, although we will consider follow-on rounds and our preference is to be part of a consortium of investment partners.
Kidney Research UK has a deep and long-established network across the scientific and clinical renal community and our support to innovative companies goes beyond purely financial investment, providing scientific and clinical expertise and support with patient engagement.
Our programme is supported by expert advisors and staff who have extensive experience in developing start-up and mid-size health companies, a deep knowledge of renal medicine from both a clinical and patient perspective, dealmaking, negotiation and investment.
