About the Project

FFLIP (Future Flight and Land Infrastructure Programme) builds on a previous project co-funded by the Future Flight Challenge, which demonstrated a viable charging infrastructure for urban air mobility (UAM), including a 1/10th scale version of a 600kW system.

FFLIP will further develop Petalite’s patent-pending ‘SDC’ EV vehicle charging technology to produce a highly reliable long-lasting platform to enable electrification of mobility in demanding applications such as electrical vertical take off and landing (eVTOL).

Please Note: Funding available is the grant value awarded by Innovate UK.

Project Activities

FFLIP aims to deliver a full-scale multi-modal demonstration in Oxfordshire, including a 600kW eVTOL charging infrastructure with multiple power configurations to support 24-hour rapid charging of electric ground vehicles, trucks, drones, and eVTOL aircraft.

The project partners will undertake a cyclical verification and testing phase to ensure prototypes meet the required performance, sustainability, and application requirements. eVTOL prototypes will then be used to demonstrate implementation of the charging infrastructure in eVTOL applications.

Unlike most existing charging systems that use power factor correction circuits, which introduce additional failure modes, the ‘SDC’ platform will offer higher reliability charging infrastructure at a lower installation cost, as well as offering a considerably longer operating life which both reduces life-cycle operating costs and improves sustainability. The development of this kind of electric charging infrastructure makes eVTOL transportation more feasible.
